Trash Mom prioritizes protecting waterways first!
Obsessed with sea-life, sea and shore-birds, lakes and mangroves, we prefer to get all garbage removed as quickly as possible before winds or tides carry it into the waterways. The only exception is if we are needed urgently to help a family or any person who needs immediate help!! Otherwise, we clear around the waterways first. Secondly, we head inland and take care of business!
Ocean Cleanup
“When I look out into the vastness of the ocean, a sense of peace comes over me. Excitement wells when a dolphin fin surfaces! Around Florida, the gentle Manatee are a wonder, and if you ever have the blessing of being approached by one while you are soaking in the sea…you will never be the same. Sea and shore birds also take my breath away, and can bring me to tears. All of these creatures are the faces that most of us see. But for divers and biologists, they see more and are accutely aware of how much life is affected by the debri that is choking our ocean, lake, and mangrove dwellers. It’s urgent. If Trash Moms can take care of the shores, I will have some sense of peace that we are helping to protect all that we love so much.”

Mangrove Cleanup
“After cleaning roadside along the mangroves, I saw a few pieces of debri a bit further into the mangrove forest. As I started to make my way through the twisted mangrove roots, it wasn’t long before I saw so much garbage strewn throughout…my heart dropped. I found an uncountable number of toxic cans of paint, oils, gas cans, spray cans, lawn poisons of all kinds, detergents, you name it. It’s all in the mangroves from years of hurricanes in Florida blowing out garage items from homes. I realized people have not been combing through the mangroves removing the trash, and all that toxic junk leaches into the ground and bleeds into the nearby waterways. That is when I decided I needed to start a group to tackle the mangroves. I needed to gather other Trash Moms who would hear the call and take action.”
